Weather situation

A low-pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea and continues to head eastwards, while a high-pressure ridge extends across the state's west. Then, a series of troughs look set to brush the state's east during the midweek, bringing wet and windy conditions and powerful waves along the coast. Winds and waves will ease later this week as the troughs head to southeast Queensland and they will be followed by a strong high-pressure system drifting across Bass Strait. The high will maintain a ridge across the state's south and west as it enters the Tasman Sea during the weekend, bringing stable weather conditions to much of the state apart from some lingering showers in the northeast.
